A Feasibility Study
The purpose of the project is to test and determine the need/demand, impact and viability of the vision for a purpose built Cornwall Wildlife Centre
The concept for the Cornwall Wildlife Centre (CWC) has been developed as a result of discussions with English Nature and The Cornwall Wildlife Trust on the theme of “Reconnecting People with Wildlife”. Cornwall Wildlife Centre Ltd has been established as a ‘not for profit’ enterprise – to enable to concept to be tested.
The concept involves development of a physical centre (hub) which will be a focus for all wildlife/environment activities and information across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The Centre could:
- Provide an overview which comprehensively links the environmental, social, historical, geological and archaeological characteristics of Cornwall’s wildlife and environment
- Be a hub for all wildlife and environmental and ecological groups and organisations in the County, regionally and nationally and will direct its visitors to wildlife projects throughout Cornwall.
- Stimulate public engagement in the environment, education, sharing knowledge, initiating and supporting research and promoting positive environmental awareness about our relationship with and impact upon our natural surroundings.
- Be situated on an appropriate habitat site in Cornwall
The Centre has potential to inform and educate the people of Cornwall about their wildlife, landscape and environment especially schools, clubs and interest groups. It will have the support of local schools and colleges, Combined Universities Cornwall, Falmouth College of Arts, Duchy College and the LEA and community groups.
